On the morning of August 9th, 2023, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, hosted two lectures on Knowledge Graphs and Geographic Information Science. The lectures attracted numerous experts, scholars, researchers, and students from the field of geographic information science. The HiGISX, led by Researcher Shaohua Wang, attended the lectures as part of their academic exploration.
The first lecture was presented by renowned Professor Krzysztof Janowicz. He holds positions at the University of Vienna, Austria, and the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), USA, specializing in geographic information science and spatial data research. During the presentation, Professor Janowicz provided a comprehensive explanation of the innovative paradigm of Knowledge Graphs in representing, retrieving, and integrating highly heterogeneous data. He also discussed their applications and future developments in the field of geographic information. He introduced the KnowWhereGraph project, which is rooted in Knowledge Graphs and aims to establish a cross-domain data repository to support applications such as supply chain management, humanitarian aid, and environmental intelligence.
In the second lecture, Dr. Rui Zhu shared insights into global challenges and Geographic Information Science. His research encompasses areas such as Geographic Knowledge Graphs, explicit spatial machine learning, and spatial statistics. Dr. Zhu captivated the audience with a fascinating academic discourse.
This lecture provided the HiGISX with a valuable opportunity for academic exchange, while also broadening their international perspectives.s
