HiGISX Attended Prof. Yin Jie's Academic Lecture

On the morning of 19 July 2023, Professor Yin Jie from the School of Geosciences, East China Normal University, visited the Institute of Geography and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences to give an academic report. Professor Yin Jie gave an academic report titled "Urban Flood Disaster Scenario Simulation, Risk Assessment and Comprehensive Preparedness" for the faculty members and students, and the report introduced current research and practice results of coastal urban flood disaster research and practice in four aspects, including the development of numerical flood model, application of flood numerical model, risk assessment of flood disaster and comprehensive preparedness for flood disaster prevention, mitigation, relief and sustainable development of coastal cities. By focusing on Shanghai, New York, London and other major megacities in the world, this report introduces the current research and practice results of flooding in coastal cities from four aspects, such as flood numerical model development, flood numerical model application, flood risk assessment and comprehensive prevention of flooding, with a view to providing scientific and technological support for disaster prevention, mitigation, relief and sustainable development of coastal cities.

Researcher Wang Shaohua from the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, led five students, Zhou Junyuan, Li Xiao, Su Cheng, Xu Dachuan and Luo Cong, to attend this report on behalf of the subject group, which was hosted by Researcher Ge Yong, and in which the experts shared their contents in depth. The attending students and teachers actively participated in the presentation and had a warm exchange and interaction with the experts to further deepen their understanding and application of professional knowledge.

The presentation not only enriched everyone's academic vision, but also provided valuable learning and communication opportunities. Everyone expressed that they have gained more knowledge in Professor Yin Jie's research field, and have gained a deeper understanding of urban flood disaster scenario simulation, risk assessment and comprehensive prevention. Such academic exchange activities have a positive role in promoting the academic level and scientific research ability of the group.
